Exile

Exile

Across the water we might find a little hope
If you fall in the canal I'll throw out a rope
We'd all like to think that we're like Vincent van Gogh
But who we are for real we might never know

A lonely pair of eyes stare up at me across the bar
A statue of a man points his right hand up to the stars
The smoke is rising up by now I guess we'll start the show
Up to your neck in darkness I suppose here comes the glow

Where my train is coming from ain't nobody knows
Where I might be going to that bar's already closed
Once I was a living soul now I'm turning to a ghost
My head is pounding either way I was sleeping in my clothes

So now I leave the Netherlands I've been there for awhile
The Dutch police all scream at me I try to fake a smile
It's morning now the sun's not up I snorted up a pile
On the train to Germany, I'm lost in my own exile
